Birds of the Loddon – White-winged Chough

WHITE-WINGED CHOUGH   Corcorax melanorhamphos

SIZE: 45cm

HABITAT: dry woodlands (in parties) – across south-east Australia

Black, open wings show large areas white area. Eye red Long down-curved bill. Long tail

Took this photograph last night while walking down near the river on the edge of the Town. Nothing special about the birds – WHITE-WINGED CHOUGHS or the photo itself. I just liked the reflections and the colour contrasts. Plus it also adds another species to list of local birds posted. To view the full list of species posted Click on the heading BIRDS above.

Birds of Mulwarrie Studios – Little Corella and Long-billed Corella

Took these photos down at the river behind the “Studio” tonight. The Corellas coming in for water in the evening has become a regular occurrence here at this time of year over the last few years. Flocks in their thousands can be quiet destructive to the local river gum environment. These birds in many rural ares are now considered to be a pest and out of balance with nature and local environments.

Memsie

These are photos I took some time ago and decide to have play with. Was interested to see how various editing added or detracted from there presentation, so all comments are welcome.

Memsie was the first European settlement/run established in the Loddon Region. Selection was taken up and commenced in about 1838/39.  We will post more historical information on this locally significant site in future  posts.

Birds of Mulwarrie Studios – Sacred Kingfisher

The baby Kingfisher from the nest beside the workshop has finally left the nest. The female is busy fetching food while the male stands guard near the baby while the female is away. Snapped these photographs when she returned with a small snake. Unfortunately was so exited forgot to adjust my camera settings hence the quality of these photos leaves a bit to be desired. Thought their were still were worth publishing because of the subject matter.
